Hides
Rats love spots in their cages where they can hide away from sight, to sleep or eat, or store their food.
These plastic igloos are the norm for small animal hides, though sometimes they can be a bit small for the bigger rats, they easily get flipped over, and rats may chew on the plastic. But overall they are not bad, at least they are easy to clean.
A wooden hide such as this one is great as they are pretty heavy so hard for the rats to tip over. The rats will love chewing on the wood of course, but its better for them than chewing on plastic.
Toys
Rats love a good tunnel. But as it is made of plastic, they will chew holes all the way through it. Also, it is difficult to clean.
Make the most of your cage space with some hanging toys. Mineral chews are great for rats too!
Rats love little platforms around their cage to stand on, especially if they can chew them too.
Or just go for some classic chew toys. Rats will love to pick them up and put them in their food bowl... for some reason.
Of course there is heaps more options for these sorts of toys on eBay, but these are some examples of what we can get in our Tasmanian pet stores.
I also often use cat toys with my rats, they are cheaper but usually made of plastic rather than quality wood.
